COSMONAUT OF INNER SPACE.

This project is an amalgamation of several influences; overall a statement on
how the cold war ideal nuclear family was never pure, and communities were
greatly saturated with heroin throughout the 1950s.

In William S. Burrough's novel, Junky, he documents a pseudo-biography of his
drug years in the 50s and details himself as "a cosmonaut of inner space." Taking
that literally and placing it within history, the space race started with Sputnik in 1957,
and ending with landing on the moon in 1969. The excitement of space travel
brought with it the fear of the progression of the enemy.

The salt box is a recreation of the 1968 logo of the Morton Salt girl, who has the
motto "When it Rains, it Pours," with an excess of salt spilling a mound overhead and
onto the ground. Atop the mound is a John F. Kennedy memorial tarnished & burned
silver spoon; showing a satellite orbiting a planet with the word "Friendship." The salt
is representational of the excess of heroin; using the peaceful friendship spoon as a
contradiction towards the negative reality.
